The kitchen of my dreams
Kitchen

These homeowners grew up in a British Crown Colony and had a deep-seated love for their childhood style and fond memories of an era gone by. After marrying and having children, they found their dream home nestled in a woodland lot.

The clients wanted a comfortable space to entertain and have large family gatherings yet feel the intimacy of everyday life. In love with a British Colonial style, they revelled in the relaxed, genteel, well-travelled and confident elements which inspired our design. The quintessential sophistication of dark-stained wood flooring with golden bamboo furniture, pure white cabinetry, rattan accents and wicker with touches of natural greenery created a new kitchen with a nod to the past.

Anyone who has remodelled a kitchen will tell you how exciting yet overwhelming the process is. You may go into the experience thinking, “Finally, I get the kitchen of my dreams! I get to have things exactly the way I want”. The reality of balancing wishes with practical concerns, functionality, space limitations and a budget is entirely different.

The current space was divided into a sizeable unused dining room and a small kitchen with a breakfast area. Removing the dining room partition was one solution. A standard approach of an “oversized island” did not create the intimacy of day-to-day family life. The decision was clear; two islands. One island for the practical side of meal prep and cooking, and the other for everyday meals, homework, intimate gatherings and chatting, drink in hand and doubling as an excellent surface for large parties.
One of the most loved and often the most difficult decisions is what material to use for the countertops. In our client’s case, Soapstone was the perfect selection, with its undeniable timeless and natural beauty.
The perimeter and backsplash are Soapstone, while the two islands are a crisp white Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold.
Love the design and craftsmanship. They understood our needs and came up with a design which perfectly fits our lifestyle.
