Love it, Don’t List it
Kitchen
Many homeowners of retirement age ask themselves a tricky question; Should I renovate my current home, or purchase a new one? Love it or ……
After much consideration, the homeowners decided to stay and renovate for several reasons. They loved the lo- cation, they had a garden that was a restful oasis with a pool for the grandkids, the house was full of memories and their heart was in this home. This house made life easier.
Granny’s house continues to be the central hub for the growing family. The current compartmentalized space worked when the kids were little, busy, and noisy. But 30 years later, with grandchildren, the family home needed significant changes.
The goal of the renovation was to customize the new kitchen for the client’s retirement life.
The wish list consisted of a large island in the kitchen, a beverage center, an open floor plan for the main living spaces, a family room with a TV and a spot for morning coffee in the sunlight.
Unfortunately, a kitchen facelift in the 70’s no longer worked. Dated and dark, their space was ripe for a re- model. Learning how the clients liked to work in the kitchen, what they needed to have handy and which styles they liked helped transform the modest space into an open and light room, paying careful attention to the smallest of details to keep things balanced and special.
All unnecessary walls were moved. Two were load-bear- ing, and a third wall was adjusted to create a straight; back wall, for the new kitchen. The dining room was re- located to the front of the house and a new archway was intentionally created as a transition point to the new din- ing room. The family room became part of the kitchen.
Day-to-day living took place mainly at the back of the house. Removing the wall flooded the home with light and unobstructed views of the backyard oasis.
We used Square Footage to renovate our very outdated main Bathroom. From
my first inquiry call through to the completion of the task, we were nothing but
totally satisfied with the service and with the end result. The job was completed
a bit early, despite the COVID challenges and definitely on budget. We are really
enjoying the new bathroom and look forward to working with Square Footage
again when we renovate our kitchen and main floor living area. Thank you
Square Footage for being so professional and responsive to our every question!
