Penthouse Kitchen
This kitchen was built in a two-storey penthouse apartment in Toronto, for a couple who love entertaining and their cat. The previous kitchen was out of date, dysfunctional, dark and lacked adequate storage. For their new kitchen the couple wanted essentially the complete opposite — one that was open, modern and light.
The dining and living room walls were removed to open up the space and make it more inviting. A custom bar, which previously accommodated a closet, was installed for entertaining friends and family. No storage was lost as we created space on the other side of the staircase. A large island, perfect for quick breakfasts and long dinners with guests, was installed in place of the previously standing walls. Finally, we utilized scratch and cat-resistant cabinets, which can be seen on the lower millwork and island. These matte cabinets contrast nicely with the much glossier, all white cabinetry above.
